Basketball Fiji is right now preparing for the Oceania Youth Tournament that will be held on the 23rd of November till the 2nd of December. This tournament, that is held every two years, will be hosted in Melbourne, Australia. The tournament consists of only eight countries within the Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand. There are only eight countries that participate in the tournament and it is all dependent upon which countries can pay the levies first.

For this year, 2012, countries participating are Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, American Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Guam, New Caledonia and Tahiti. Australia and New Zealand are currently the two top teams to beat in this Oceania league.

Both the Fiji teams, men and women's, are preparing hard for the tournament. They have been training since the beginning of this year and are ready to take on the other countries.



The women's team is coached my Laisiasa Puamau and is managed by Angie Kainamoli. The team members are Tiyana Kainamoli, Josifini Fifita, Elizabeth Seru, Kelera Koyamainavure, Grace Taito (Capt.), Maraia Naivaluvou, Donnis Kainamoli, Georgina Balenacagi, Wilma Cawi and Leba Korovou. Wilma is currently a student in Australia and Leba in New Zealand. They will meet the team at Melbourne before heading into the Game Village.

The men's coach is Saula Koroi and their personal trainer, Ben Qumi. The team members are Filimoni Vulimailaucala, Ulaiasi Koroi, Tule Mawi, Peter Nacagilevu, Mataika Koyamaninavure, George Patterson, Isireli Vuetibau (Capt.), Walter Vuruya, Iosefa Taliu, Josh Saku. The reserves are Digitaki Kacibalavu and Sairusi Boki.
